WordPress 4.9 to Focus on Code Editing and Customization Improvements
As Matt Mullenweg mentioned earlier WordPress is moving towards it own customizer and text editor. The text editor is Gutenberg editor it is evolving pretty quickly after our first impression on Gutenberg version 0.38. Mel Choyce made a list of goals for 4.9, the most important thing is going to be improving the code editing experience by adding syntax highlighting.
